Agriculture Secretary Johanns Addresses National 4-H Conference Delegates
United States Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns addressed delegates of the 77th Annual National 4-H Conference on March 28, 2007, in Washington, DC.
Agriculture Secretary Johanns, a former 4-H member himself, congratulated the youth on their achievements as National 4-H Conference delegates, and reminded them of the value of the 4-H Youth Development program.
“The fact that you're a delegate this week says so much about you as a person. Don't ever forget that. It says a lot about your leadership skills, your citizenship, your community service,” he said. “Now, looking back many, many years on those days I spent in 4-H, those years I spent in 4-H, I can tell you that it became the core of who I am - who I am today.”
Secretary Johanns discussed how 4-H members have participated in some of the work he has done in his role as secretary of agriculture, and encouraged the youth to continue to take on leadership roles that will influence the future of the nation before officially adjourning the 77th National 4-H Conference.
