As 4-H’s Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) program comes to a close, 4-H high school youth from across the nation are walking away with a broader understanding of their positive impact in our nation’s civic engagement process.

CWF, a 4-H civic education and leadership program for high school youth, runs during seven weeks every summer at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Md. Since 1963, CWF has provided leadership opportunities for 4 Hers to experience the nation’s capital and governmental processes first hand.

Each week, 4-H delegates travel from across the country to broaden their appreciation and respect for themselves and others in the world through civic workshops, committees, field trips and social events. Participants learn and practice skills intended to make them better citizens and successful individuals. Approximately 2,000 youth are attending CWF this summer. More than 150 additional 4-H youth were able to participate in CWF this year thanks to a scholarship provided by Carhartt.

“Carhartt’s support of Citizenship Washington Focus allows 4-H to expand leadership opportunities to even more youth through the 4-H Carhartt Scholars program,” says Donald T. Floyd, Jr., National 4-H Council president and CEO. “This investment in civic engagement gives today’s youth leaders the skills and knowledge to grow into even better leaders tomorrow.”

For more than 115 years, Carhartt has manufactured premium workwear known for exceptional durability, comfort, quality of construction and has expanded its product line to include warm and cold weather apparel.
