Kentucky 4-H Club Receives ESRI Recognition
The McLean County 4-H GIS Club (McLean County, Ky.) Community Atlas Project was selected as the ESRI Community Atlas Model Project for the 2006/2007 year. ESRI's U.S. Community Atlas is a project in which educators and youth across the country define the nature of "their community" and post descriptions and maps about it.
These presentations are combined on the Web server and can be searched by characteristic and explored for similarities and differences. Youth explore their communities and their Community Atlas GIS maps become the heart of their community story. The 4-H youth in McLean County used the ArcView software they received as part of a GIS grant, and created a general community profile about their rural farming community in western Kentucky.
Congratulations to the McLean County 4-H GIS Club for being the first 4-H club selected as a Model Project. You may find more 4-H club Community Atlas projects at esri.com/communityatlas and see other 4-H GIS projects at esri.com/4-H.
