Oregon 4-H Youth Present at ESRI Conference in Santo Domingo

Three Intel 4-H Tech Wizard youth from Washington County, Ore. were Plenary presenters at the ESRI Latin American and Caribbean GIS-Users conference in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on November 2, 2007.

Lizbeth Gonzalez (formerly from Hillsboro High school and now a freshman at Rice University in Texas), Clara Mandujano (a senior at Hillsboro high school), and Luis Chavez from Forest Grove High school, all participate in the after school Intel 4-H Tech Wizards project. The students have worked with the City of Hillsboro doing a Street Tree Inventory project using ESRI’s signature GIS software, ArcGIS, and several specialized extensions, and were asked to represent their club by presenting at this plenary session. For the past several years, the Intel 4-H Tech Wizard youth have made presentations about their projects at local, national, and international levels, but this is the first time that they have presented their project outside of the United States. This trip was made possible through the generous support of the Oregon 4-H Foundation, ESRI, and the Oregon State University 4-H office.

You can follow their travels on the 4-H Equipo GIS website or on their blog and view their collection of pictures at flickr.com.
