Extreme Home Makeover Makes Maryland 4-H Family Dreams a Reality

Cecil County 4-H family, the Luthers, were paid a surprise visit by Ty Pennington and the design team of the ABC television show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition with news that in just seven days, they would receive a brand new house and horse farm. The Luther family was sent to Italy for a much needed vacation while the team, along with more than 1500 contractors and hundreds of volunteers, rebuilt the Luther home, riding center and a brand-new indoor riding arena.

This news couldn't have come at a better time since the Luthers were in jeopardy of losing their farm. After the loss of her husband from cancer, Renee Luther was left to raise her two kids and struggled to maintain their horse riding center, Freedom Hills, which provides therapeutic riding for disabled kids. Not only did the Extreme Makeover team helped this family get back on their feet but helped Renee keep her promise to her husband of renovating Freedom Hills.

The Luthers have had a 4-H horse club at their farm for years. Renee Luther was a club leader and her daughter Ellie, a 4-H member.
