Former Olympian Compares 4-H to Olympics
Hoosier Ag Today with Gary Truitt
Two landmark events kickoff this week, the Indiana State Fair and the Beijing Olympic Games. Are there any commonalities between the athletes and 4-H members headed for State Fair competition? The answer is absolutely yes if you ask 1988 Olympic runner and father of Indiana 4-H'ers, Terry Brohm. The Indiana University athlete was on the grounds of the State Fair Monday and told Hoosier Ag Today what happens during the process of getting to that pinnacle of competition is what links the two.
"It's the process through either 4-H or athletics or education that develops young people. And it's what they become while they're striving to become a grand champion, or a gold medalist, or a valedictorian. I think that's really why 4-H and athletics are so powerful."
